Ron Stierstorfer and Scott Sewell Team Up to top the field at Smallwood

Maryland Bass Nation finally got to hold its first event after postponing the first two scheduled events due to bad weather conditions. Sunday, June 1st the weather was great and the first SQT event was held at Smallwood State Park. A total of 31 Teams would compete in this event.

The team of Ron Stierstorfer and Scott Sewell won the event with their best five fish weighing in at 16.47 pounds. They would also weigh in the biggest fish of the event with a 5.61 pound kicker. Scott said he and Ron fished grass in Belmont Bay all day. All of their fish, including the big fish were caught on 3/8 ounce spinnerbaits. Only one other fish that they caught came on a wacky rigged senko.

The team of John Burdette and Micheal Stegman would take second place in the event with 15.93 pounds for their best five fish. John said “we just went fishing and got lucky to find a couple.” The day started on the north side of a muddy creek. John said they only caught one keeper there and decided to bail on the area they had practiced on because the recent rains made for muddy conditions. He said they started to get impatient because things were not working out like they had planned. They started jumping around a bit with little success. The thought was that the tide would bring in cleaner water so, they went back to the spot where they found fish in practice. “With the incoming tide and grass in the area it gave us enough confidence to camp out where we caught them in practice.” John said things worked out for them and they were fortunate enough to pull off 2nd place.

The next three scores were extremely tight weights. Mike Roselle and his dad Rick Roselle would finish third with 15.92 pounds for their best five fish. Micheal Nutter and Jessie Colie finished fourth with 15.91 pounds. Fifth place was taken by the team of Brian Trieschman and Tim McGlenn with 15.89 pounds.

Stay tuned for the next two events which will take place in August.
