The Team of Martin and Goins win the 2nd SQT event on the Nanticoke River
The 2nd SQT event took place on Saturday, August 9th on the Nanticoke River. The
team of Richard Martin and Jim Goins would win the event with a total weight of 10.58
pounds for their best 5 fish limit. They would also catch the biggest fish of the
tournament, which weighed in at 3.76 pounds. Richard said that they spent their entire
day fishing in Marshyhope Creek, fishing around wood and lily pads. They ended up
catching their best 5 fish on a variety of baits, one on a spinnerbait, 2 on a brush hog
and 2 on a senko. Richard said that they did not catch a lot of fish, and they ended up
culling up just one time.
The team of Joe Puller and J. P. Harrell would finish in second place with a total weight
of 9.83 pounds for their best 5. Joe said they also caught their fish on wood and lily
pads and with a variety of baits. They caught their fish throwing spinner baits, crank
baits and senkos. Joe said they caught about a total of 8 keeper size fish. Most of the
fish they caught would come at the end of the outgoing tide.
Finishing 3rd was the team of Brett Winegardner and Craig Winegardner with their total
weight coming in at 9.32 pounds and the team of Brian Trieschman and Tim McGlenn
finished 4th with their total weight at 8.80 pounds.
After 2 events, there are still 2 events left on the schedule as well as the Mr. Bass event
to determine who qualifies to fish our State Championship. The top 8 teams from the
Trail events as well as the top 2 boaters and riders in our Mr. Bass event will compete in
a draw tournament in the fall on the Potomac River. Stay tuned.
