Kelly Comer

Kelly Comer passed away on the morning of March 7. He was a long-time friend to many and a former member of our Nation. He was a founding member of the Reel Crazy Bassmasters and a member of my club, Chesapeake Bass Anglers.

I can still remember the first time I met Kelly at a Northern Region meeting at the Maple Inn in Rosedale over thirty years ago. A big man with an infectious voice and personality.

He and his wife Karen participated in numerous events with the Nation. At one point Kelly and I teamed up as tournament directors. Long before spreadsheets and emails it was pulling names from a hat and making phone calls.

I had a working relationship with Kelly as well. He was head of maintenance at the Harper House condominiums in Village of Cross Keys and brought my company in to handle some of their bigger projects. Oddly enough when I got the call of Kelly’s passing, I was driving to his building.

Like Cindy and Billy Sanders, we’ve lost these cherished friends’ way to early. I’d like to think that Kelly and Billy are easing out to begin a tournament and Cindy’s hollering “3:00 weigh in”.

We’ll miss you Kelly.
