MBN A.O.Y. Awarded to Brett Winegardner and J. P. Harrell
Each year MBN awards the top boater and non-boater from our Trail events with the Angler of the Year award. This award is a great accomplishment for any angler in any organization because it is difficult to do when competing against many great anglers. The Trail events consist of four tournaments throughout the State and points are awarded based on how you finish in each event. Three of your best scores out of the four events counts towards your total points for the year.
Brett Winegardner won the boater division with an incredible year for any angler. Brett actually won two of the four events. He won the first event on the Potomac river and then he won the last event at Deep Creek Lake which is Brett’s home Lake. Winning 2 of 4 events in any given year does not happen much. Brett’s lowest finish of the year was a 9th place finish at Conowingo, which was his drop tournament for the year. Brett has made the State Team many times since he has been fishing MBN but, this has to be one of his best accomplishments in his career. Congrats Brett on a fantastic year.
Joe Puller also needs to be mentioned in that he finished 2nd to Brett in the boater division, just one point behind Brett. Joe’s best three tournaments, he finished 2nd, 3rd and 5th which is also an incredible accomplishment. Joe’s lowest score was a 6th place finish.
J. P. Harrell was the A.O.Y. in the non-boater division with finishes of 2nd, 3rd and 4th for his best of 3 tournaments. J. P. Harrell lowest score was a 6th place finish. Congrats J. P. on a fantastic year fishing as a non-boater in the Trail events. Must also mention Jessie Colie who actually finished the year with the same total points as J. P. but, ended up 2nd overall because of the tiebreaker.
It was a great season by some incredible anglers. Well done boys!
